Breachingcharge is a mod for the game DayZ that adds a configurable base raiding system and is aimed at improving the raiding experience compared to the base game. When this mod was first created, raiding another player’s base using the base game’s systems was not a particularly great user experience, mainly due to limited ways of balancing how difficult it was and how much time/effort it took, without affecting other parts of the game loop. Breachingcharge was designed to be very customizable in this regard, featuring its own separate damage system, items and crafting recipes to give server owners the ability to adjust every aspect of the raiding experience more granularly.
As the main developer, I’ve worked on all parts of the mod and most of it was very much a learning experience, as it was my first larger public mod for the game. Understanding how the game works and what has to be done to achieve the planned features required a lot of effort at first, especially the multiplayer aspect and designing the mod in a way that ensures compatibility with other mods and future game updates. While this was my first public mod for the game and some things could be improved (many of which have been implemented in my later mod More Explosives), it still managed to garner a significant user base of over 2.3 million users since its initial release.
